Teachers can significantly improve pupil attainment and behaviour by getting parents more involved in their children's education, according to a report published today. Parents have the greatest influence when they support learning in the home, rather than in school, the study found. Schools need to make a special effort to work with parents from lower socio-economic backgrounds and ethnic minorities, Professor Alma Harris, from Warwick University, said. She studied more than 100 schools taking part in a parental engagement strategy funded by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
