Parents are more likely to look favourably on their children studying vocational qualifications now that the UK is in recession, a poll by the Edge foundation suggests. The charity, which promotes vocational options for teenagers, found in a survey of 1,555 parents that their enthusiasm for practical learning had risen sharply as unemployment increased. More than four-fifths of parents of 11- to 19-year-olds told the YouGov poll that they believe it is important for their child to have a vocational qualification.
