Parents of 1,100 truants fined

The parents of more than 1,100 truants have been fined since September, the Government has revealed. A further 11,500 court summonses were handed out for failure to pay fines or allowing children to miss school after a warning. Parents face fixed fines of pound;50 each for every child who misses school, doubling to pound;100 if not paid within 28 days.
