Parents believe that Jamie Oliver is the biggest single force for improvement in school dinners.

The celebrity chef is perceived as having a bigger impact than the Government, local authorities and schools themselves. Nearly all (96 per cent) of the 540 parents questioned had heard of his campaign.

Three-quarters thought that meals had improved over the past year, the survey by BMRB, a market research group, revealed.
