Parents should sort mobile abuse

I support the idea proposed in the Government’s education Bill of giving teachers legal powers to discipline pupils, including confiscating mobile phones (TES, March 3.

But is this not part of an increasing trend that expects teachers to take on a greater share of responsibility for “parenting” pupils?

In the United States, services are now available in the mobile phone market that enable parents to prevent such misuse as bullying or using phones during school hours. It is time to bring such methods to the UK.
