Parents unaware of new phonics test

More than three-quarters of parents are not aware of a new reading test for primary children set to be introduced across the country next year. A questionnaire conducted by education company Pearson on 1,114 parents who use the website Mumsnet found that 77 per cent did not know about the exam being introduced for six-year-olds. The short phonics test will be carried out in 300 schools this summer and is due to be rolled out nationally in 2012.
