We note that the STUC is being urged to abandon its “special relationship” with New Labour and invite SNP leader John Swinney to address next year’s annual congress. This follows the appearance before the TUC conference last week of the Lib-Dems’ leader, Charles Kennedy.

This call has come from Bill Ramsay, described as the SNP trade union group’s representative on the party’s national executive. Ramsay is also a prominent figure in the Educational Institute of Scotland (well, at least in its Lanarkshire fastness), so perhaps we should look forward to leading Tories and Liberal Democrats being invited to proffer their wisdom in front of the massed ranks of EIS members. But perhaps not.
