I do not recall being able to summon up much passion when reading TES editorials.
But your leader (November 29) was spot on in challenging the Government’s claim that specialist schools succeed just because they are specialist.
Many of these schools were successful before they were selected, which is why they became specialist. That should remind Education Secretary Charles Clarke that repeating an erroneous conclusion does not mean that TES staff, or their readers, will believe it.
But the common sense did not stop there. In fairly forthright tones the editorial went on to point out the obvious point that if government does not stop ramming measures and tests down our throats then our education system will continue to be at risk. So bravo!
