Pay ballots off;In brief;News amp; Opinion

The Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association and the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers both called off planned ballots on industrial action following the offer of a 3.6 per cent pay deal. The SSTA announced it would be carrying out a "reality check" in schools to monitor workload, stress and "pernicious pupil indiscipline" which it hoped would influence the McCrone committee of inquiry.
