Lecturers’ bid for a 6 per cent pay rise has been denied by employers, who say their 1 per cent offer is “final”. Unions have rejected it.
Evan Williams, director of employment for the Association of Colleges, said the decision not to increase the offer was not taken lightly and colleges believed it was “realistic” in the current economy.
Barry Lovejoy, head of FE at the University and College Union, said: “This offer at a stroke has halted progress in reducing the gap between schoolteachers and staff in further education.”
