The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service said applications for all subjects fell by 1.8 per cent on last year - largely due to a dramatic drop in applications from recession-hit Malaysia, and from Ireland where tuition fees have just been scrapped. But the decline in interest from mature students continued.
APPLICATIONS for postgraduate courses in secondary teacher-training are down by 10 per cent, falling below the 10,000 mark, official figures reveal today. Primary applications fell by almost 8 per cent but still stand at around 60,000.
