The Borders has launched its first integrated strategy for physical activity, sport and physical education. It is a partnership initiative between Scottish Borders Council and various bodies including NHS Borders, sportscotland, Borders Sport and Leisure Trust, and district sports councils.

The strategy addresses various aims: to promote well-being through physical activity; the provision of high-quality PE in schools; the development of facilities and community access; sustaining and developing coaches and volunteers; supporting thriving clubs and organisations; and creating athlete potential.

“This co-ordinated and strategic approach will enable us to provide a wide range of physical activity, sport and PE to the long-term benefit of individuals and communities in the Borders,” says Glenn Rodger, the council’s director of education and lifelong learning.
