Anne Worsley has been appointed chair of education and leisure services for Southwark. Councillor Dominic Thorncroft, who works for the National Association of YMCAs, replaces her as vice-chair.

Dr Peter Knight, vice-chancellor of the University of Central England, Birmingham, has been elected to the council of the Committee of Vice- Chancellors and Principals.

John Rudd, formerly vice-principal of South Birmingham College and an Open University lecturer for 20 years, is the new principal of Nottingham People’s College of Tertiary Education.

Professor Colin Renshaw Lucas, master of Balliol College, is to be vice- chancellor of the University of Oxford from 1997-2001.

Professor Janet Finch, pro-vice-chancellor of Lancaster University, is to be vice-chancellor of Keele University in succession to Professor Brian Fender, who has been appointed chief executive of the Higher Education Funding Council.

Deidre Trembath has been appointed chair of the Parents’ National Education Union Association of Charlotte Mason schools, an organisation committed to excellence and educating the whole child. She is head of Dormer House PNEU School in the Cotswolds.
