Dr Kate Myers, course leader for the doctor of education programme, London Institute of Education, will become professor of professional development in education at Keele University's Centre for Successful Schools on October 6.

Nick Henwood, currently chief education officer for Somerset, is to be strategic director for education and libraries for Kent.

Andrew Barson, an education adviser for the East Riding of Yorkshire, has been inaugurated as president of the National Association of Educational Inspectors, Advisers and Consultants.

Vitas Krivinskas has been appointed assistant director (quality support and advisory services) for Halton Council, based in Runcorn. He was formerly Halton's deputy district education officer.

Professor Ken Gregory, warden of Goldsmiths College, London University, is to retire in September 1998.

Maurice Barry has been appointed head of The Howard School, Gillingham, Kent, having taught there since his probationary days.

Frank Whiteman, former HMI, is now educational consultant to the Design and Technology Show to be held November 13-15.

Helen Auty, design director of the Royal Society of Arts, becomes the RSA's director of external relations on October 1. Her deputy, Susan Hewer, currently head of the RSA Student Design Awards, will become head of design.
