Sian Macdonald, principal of Hyde Clarendon College, Tameside, will succeed Keith Rowland as principal and chief executive of Tresham Institute of Further and Higher Education, Kettering, Northamptonshire, on January 1.

Mike Spinks, formerly head of Wanstead church and Nightingale primary schools in South Woodford, London Borough of Redbridge, became head of The Cathedral School, Chelmsford, on September 1. He is also chairman of the English Schools Cricket Association.

Janet Pickering, deputy head of the King’s School, Canterbury, will succeed Paul Chamberlain as head of St Bees School, Cumbria, in January 1998.

Zo Hesmondhalgh, managing director of Creative Education, which runs inservice training courses for teachers and educationists, has become the first woman chair of the Institute of Directors’ Surrey Downs branch.

David Smallacombe, company secretary for the Greater London Post Qualifying Education and Training Consortium, has now replaced Sue Lawrence as chair.

Jane Colby, a former headteacher who has suffered from ME for 12 years, has been appointed child services development officer at Action for ME, a new post funded by the BBC Children in Need appeal.
