DAVID Green will be the new principal of University College Worcester in January 2003, taking over from Dorma Urwin. Professor Green is currently pro-vice chancellor and professor of economics at Thames Valley University. He was previously head of the Leeds business school at Leeds Metropolitan University. While working at South Bank University he served on the Council for Racial Equality for 20 years and chaired Hackney Community Action.

Alan Larbalestier has retired as director of education, arts and libraries of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, after 13 years. He is replaced by Roger Luxton, the council's officer for community learning and chief inspector of schools.

The Association of Christian Teachers conference next Saturday, November 9, will herald the appointment of Rupert Kaye who has taken over from Richard Wilkins as chief executive, holder of the post for 25 years. Mr Kaye, 36, was deputy head of Lowther primary school in Barnes, south-west London. The conference takes place at St Mary Magdalene's Church, Holloway Road, north London, and will be addressed by author Gervase Phinn and Michael Nazir Ali, Bishop of Rochester.
