Dame Angela Rumbold MP, Conservative party deputy chairman, has been appointed non-executive director of Creative Education, an independent organisation for teacher-training courses.

Anthony Tomei, formerly assistant director of the Nuffield Foundation with responsibility for education, science and health, has taken over the directorship from Robert Hazell, who is to head an inquiry into the implementation of constitutional reform, supported by Nuffield.

Sylvia Webb, an independent consultant in training and library and information services, has been appointed chair of the Information and Library Services Lead Body, which is responsible for the development of Scottish and National Vocational Qualifications in ILS.
