Jackie Fisher, formerly vice-principal of Tameside College of Technology, Ashton-under-Lyne, has been appointed principal following the retirement of Tony Sanderson.

David Triesman has been elected as general secretary of the Association of University Teachers for a further five years.

At Goldsmiths College, London University, Professor Chris Jenks, head of sociology, and Dr Bob Aylett, director of quality affairs, become pro-wardens on September 1, replacing Professor Nikolas Rose and Professor Sally Tomlinson. Professor Alan Downie, currently pro-warden (academic) will become senior pro-warden.

Manohar Minhas, curriculum tutor organiser with Wolverhampton Adult Education Service, is now centre manager at Compton Grange AES.
