Glasgow is alive with major signings. As Martin O’Neill brings in his entourage to rejuvenate the once mighty Celtic, down University Avenue the talk is of an equally prominent catch at the education faculty with the Catholic connections.

As battles over appointments to professorships continue, we can exclusively reveal that principal Sir Graeme Davies is about to announce the capture of Mike Peters, a fellow Kiwi, to fill the chair f educational research, like O’Neill on a three-year contract.

Just as O’Neill hopes to bring his backroom staff, so the eminent Peters is likely to find a place for his equally distinguished wife, Tina. This is not unusual. Sir Graeme’s wife is research fellow in English language at, of course, Glasgow University.

Across at Edinburgh University, the wife of principal Sir Stewart Sutherland works at - you guessed it.
