Performance pay? Fine, but MPs go first ..

I would be more inclined to contemplate performance-related pay if the claimed transparency applied equally to politicians (“Gove bid to link performance to pay ires unions and irritates sceptics”, November 12).

It would be easy to compile tables whereby we could evaluate our MPs’ performance compared to other MPs: how often they address the house, how many days they attend Parliament, and what other “extra-curricular” activities they undertake for the benefit of their constituents, not to mention how much they cost us in expenses.

But I can hear the cries of those politicians who perform less well: “You cannot assess the value and worth of an MP from random and sometimes irrelevent criteria!” Yes ...
