This weekend’s big book event is the publication by David Fickling Books of Philip Pullman’s Lyra’s Oxford (reviewed by Ad le Geras in Teacher magazine, page 19). John Lawrence’s lovely line drawings for the book (see below) are at the centre of the Contemporary Illustrators’ Winter Exhibition organised by the Illustration Cupboard, this year with a theme of magic and fantasy. If you’d like to buy yourself a morsel of Lyra’s Oxford for Christmas, prices start at pound;250 for some of the Lawrences and other small works including pieces by Satoshi Kitamura and Charlotte Voake. Preview the exhibition and place your bids at www. illustration cupboard.com, or just come and enjoy it at the Air Gallery, 32 Dover Street, London W1 by November 15, Mon-Fri 10am-7pm, Sat-Sun 10am-5.30pm.
