Phonics schools get sound results

Schools in Monmouthshire have seen a dramatic improvement in literacy after running a synthetic phonics programme. After six months on the Read Write Inc. scheme, 75 per cent of Years 1 and 2 pupils were at or above the expected reading age, compared with 35 per cent before.
