All school PE departments are to be asked their opinions on health-related exercise. The Scottish School of Sport Studies at Strathclyde University is sending questionnaires to every principal teacher of PE in Scotland.

Researcher Rob Littlefield says they are interested in teachers’ views on a range of issues, including staffing levels, acilities, timetable allocation, extra-curricular activities, fitness testing and the curriculum. “With widespread concern about the fitness levels of some of our pupils, this survey should help to establish the contribution schools are making to solve the problem,” he says.
