Group students into relay teams of four and choose an Olympic sport. The race is on to find at least four aspects of physics within the sport: energy transfers in pole vaulting, the design of running shoes for athletics, streamlining for swimming. The team must easily transfer from one aspect of physics to the next, so all four students contribute, and medals are awarded - bronze: basic overview; silver: ideas about how physics applies and can be used to improve a sport; and gold: ingenuity shown in presentation, content and ideas.
