Young people with sensory-impairments are being encouraged to enter the Young Film Critic of the Year Awards and to attend free school screenings during National Schools Film Week, October 16-20 (October 30-November 3 in Scotland). Film Education has developed partnerships with The National Deaf Children’s Society, RNIB, RNID and DTS, a digital cinema systems company.
Entrants in three age categories (15-18, 11-14 and 7-11) are required to submit a 250-word review of any film by September 28. These will be judged by top film writers, including Derek Malcolm, who is also patron of the Young Film Critic Awards. Prizes include Yamaha Theatre Systems for winners, and equipment and Scholastic and Film Education resources for winners’ schools.
As well as attending free National Schools Film Week screenings, cinema buffs aged 15-19 can apply for TheFilmCard to obtain two tickets for the price of one for selected films in London. The scheme is backed by Film Education, Film London and London Gifted and Talented.
