(Photograph) - Anyone concerned about the increasingly important role of classroom assistants would have had their fears allayed after seeing the work of Pippa Carey at the presentation of Becta’s ICT in Practice Awards at the BETT 2006 technology show at Olympia, London, in January. Pippa, who won the Teaching Assistance category, is based at Alexandra junior school, Hounslow, where her work has had an enormous effect on ICT being embedded in classroom subject work. The awards have now been developed by Becta as the ICT Excellence Awards, and schools will get the awards rather than individuals. You can find out more in Becta’s special supplement in The TES on March 31. More on the awards with Jack Kenny in our Web Extras section at www.tes.co.ukonline
