A BBC TV series has asked teachers to report when they first heard various playground slang terms. Balderdash and Piffle has asked for help to date the earliest use of certain colloquial words and phrases in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Kate Carter, the assistant producer, believes teachers have unique insight into these words. “Pupils’ homework is usually dated,” she said. “That’s the kind of evidence we’re very keen to get.”
