The lecturers’ union NATFHE has demanded a flat rate pay rise for college managers, which represents a 6 per cent rise for middle-ranking staff. The union’s management spine pay claim represents a flat rate Pounds 1,560 rise, which is equal to their demand for a Pounds 30-a-week increase for lecturers.
The union also wants a review of management workloads, citing “rapid and relentless” change in the sector.
The union argues that college managers’ pay has fallen behind that of other professionals, while workloads have increased.
Its flat rate pay claim contrasts with the 5 per cent demanded by the Association of College Management, the other body representing managerial staff in FE.

Some 21 lecturers had been threatened with the sack if they did not sign new contracts, but now local NATFHE leaders have extended the deadline for signing to allow talks over an agreed formula.
