Poetry pounds to beat cancer

Jacqueline Wilson, Michael Rosen and Anthony Horowitz are among a host of authors backing a children’s poetry competition to raise money for cancer research The Pound a Poem competition, which launches next week invites seven to 11-year-olds to pay pound;1 to enter their poem in the competition.

Organisers hope teachers will use the competition, which is themed on healthy eating, to teach literacy and citizenship. Winning entries will be published and prizes include a family trip to Barbados. For inspiration, go to www.poundapoem.co.uk .
