Curriculum innovation

I do not think that any curriculum innovation is likely substantially to improve intellectual power if it is not centrally concerned with the betterment of teaching. The improvement of teaching is a process of development . It is not to be achieved by a change of heart but by the thoughtful refinement of professional skill; refinement of professional skills is generally achieved by the gradual elimination of failings through the systematic study of one's own teaching.

From `An Introduction to Curriculum Research and Development' by Lawrence Stenhouse (1926-1982).
