Points of view

* Following the controversy surrounding Mel Gibson's film The Passion of the Christ (TES, April 16), Sidney Brichto is right to highlight the responsibility of religious education teachers not to sow the seeds of hate.

It should be emphasised that the holy scriptures of any religion are only true to those who believe in them, and that respect for other beliefs (including atheism) is essential if we are to avoid the spectre of religious fundamentalism.
