* “WELL DONE” to Libby Purves! Again in her column (TES, June 21) she demonstrates the plain common sense so lacking in HM Government (and anyone else with a political axe to grind) with regard to educating asylum children.

When we go to hot climates we are advised to acclimatise gradually. When young children are introduced to a new experience it is done in such a way that it will not shock. Secondary schools have induction days for new Year 7 pupils. Why not with asylum children? Ease them in gradually. Give them confidence and the means to assimilate.

This is the very stuff of empathy and humanity which Libby points out in her article, and which seems to be beyond the wit of PC do-gooders.
