Points of view

* There is an element of popular protest in modern truancy. Schools in the UK have what used to be called lower middle-class values - deference, deportment and speaking proper. Such concerns have been at the heart of New Labour's dreary approach. When I listen to what our rulers think schools are for I'm surprised the entire school-age population doesn't bunk off.
