YOU poke fun at the way in which teachers attending a Derby conference were asked to detail their dietary requirements, calling it “food faddism... reaching a whole new level of confusion” (Diary, TES, July 5).

As well as personal taste, religious and cultural beliefs also shape what we eat. I feel the organisers of this conference were giving a clear sign that they cared about the diversity of individuals attending. I would praise the organisers’ efforts, not find an excuse to laugh at them.
