Am I the only one to be disturbed by the career path of chief inspector David Bell (“Smooth operator basks in spotlight”, TES, April 8)?

I believe people working in education should show commitment to their posts. Job-hopping every two or three years in no way fulfils this requirement - even a five-year stint as a director of education is scarcely enough to influence fundamentally the direction of a local education authority.

To have as chief inspector someone who has spent just six years in the classroom and eight in schools (all primary) leaves very much to be desired. Mr Bell would not have made it on to my short list for interview.
