* A snapshot of Britain on November 5: an unpopular leader of Scottish descent struggles with a recalcitrant parliament. He finds himself reliant on favoured ministers - many of whom are unpopular Scots - who face allegations of ministerial misjudgement and corruption.

The nation is embroiled in an unpopular, costly and stagnating war; while in the capital home-grown terrorists plot outrages in the name of religion.

I wonder how many students studying the Stalin- and Hitler-dominated subject that passes for “history” could spot the parallels?
