I read your report on the resignation of headteacher Jim Abraham (“Community shocked as head resigns over report”, TES, July 19).
His comments about restrictions in teachers’ professional judgments and the increasingly prescriptive nature of the curriculum will be recognised by many colleagues.
How amusing, then, to see an advertisement three pages later for the pilot programme - New Visions for Early Headship. The image (of headteachers in an orderly line) used to promote the new programme could have jumped straight out of Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four.
