I WAS delighted to read in your article “Zero benefit of reading classes” (TES, August 16) that Dr Bonnie Macmillan claims there are now “numerous pieces of research” evidence that certain methods of teaching were unrelated to subsequent reading success. I would be grateful if Dr Macmillan could point to even one piece of research that supports the idea that teaching of reading at age five has any subsequent effect on reading success at age 11.
