It was good to see your feature on Patrick Moore’s best teacher (Friday magazine, September 6), a home tutor.
Sadly, some education authorities, especially in Scotland, still oppose home-based education and make life difficult for those who want it, despite 25 years of evidence in its favour.
They should be warned that, if all children in home-based education turned up at school on Monday, we would need at least 180 new (500-pupil) schools and 5,000 new teachers. Has the Chancellor been alerted?
