Points of view

WE wholeheartedly agree with your article "Two fingers up to a key stereotype" (TES, January 17). For years we have had a vigorous programme of keyboard skill lessons for all key stage 2 pupils and many in key stage 1. Desktop publishing can take too long to be meaningful unless the pupils are (almost) touch typists.

We timetable pupils on keyboard skill programmes as much as any other ICT activity until their keyboard skills are fluent enough to allow them to produce work of a reasonably speedy nature. Mouse control is one thing, keyboard skills quite another.
