Detention has been taken to a whole new level at St Katharine’s School in Pill, north Somerset.

Litter-picking duty and writing lines have been replaced by prison cells and police officers.

Classrooms were turned into cells as staff from the prison services came to teach pupils a lesson.

Luckily for students, it was only a lesson. Year 10 pupils were given bellowed instructions to keep other children in line as they got a feel for prison. A genuine mobile prison cell was also brought in.

The pound;2,500 event was organised by local police in a bid to keep students on the straight and narrow.

Laura Wheeler, a police community support officer, told the North Somerset Times: “If they take home anything, we hope it’s that they won’t want to end up in prison for anything.”
