Poor in spirit

JOHN Cairney's article (TESS, October 20) comparing the appearance of Rangers' Barry Ferguson and "so many" of the boys he taught over 33 years is highly illuminating. Mr Cairney's prejudice and loathing of these "scrubbed . . . weans" who were "smaller than average" extends to him experiencing schadenfreude when, years later, their look-alike Barry Ferguson suffers the ignominy of being sent off in an Old Firm game.
