A teacher who smacked a child with a newspaper did not receive enough support to control her “challenging” class, the General Teaching Council for England has said. Corinne McGuire admitted hitting the pupil while working at Maryport CofE Junior School in Cumbria, but was cleared of charges of kicking another child, pulling the hair of a pupil and pushing two others. Mrs McGuire was allowed to continue teaching by the GTC panel.
