Post-16 focus for conference

"Modern languages from school to university: learner competencies and the sixth-form curriculum" is the theme of a conference to be held on March 21-23 at Fitzwilliam College, Cambridge.

Organised by the Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research, it will include contributions from Roger Jones, head of German, Keele University and chair of the A-level German committee, Northern Examinations and Assessment Board, and Anny King, Churchill College, University of Cambridge Language Centre. Fee: Pounds 245 to Pounds 265.

Other CILT events include: a Japanese symposium at the CILT office, May 10, fee Pounds 55 to Pounds 65; and training on teaching languages at A and AS-level, Blackburn, June 19; and on the new A-level materials and methodology, London, July 5, fee Pounds 75 to Pounds 85 each.

The centre has begun to run Lingua-funded training courses in Europe for primary teachers. They include: French in Besancon, July 20-August 2; Spanish in Pamplona, May 25-June 7; and German in Staufen, October 22-November1. Fee: Pounds 145.
