Joan Sallis is absolutely right (TES, December 31). Until the status of governors is underlined by practical measures, backed by legislation, schools will struggle to be governed in the way which governmentintends.

Out-of-pocket expenses, time off without loss of earnings and high quality training for all are essential minimum prerequisites.
