IN your Science and Technology Curriculum Special (TES, December 29) Gina White doesn’t carry her argument about jargon used in “thinking skills” far enough.
To achieve high-quality design and technology she recommends mind-mapping where pupils write down their ideas then draw connections between individual words to evolve fresh lines of investigation.
But what of pupils who ind the phrase “writing down ideas” an awkward bit of jargon to handle? Perhaps putting clear thoughts on paper is a taken-for-granted activity that is impossible to teach, despite jargon purporting to aid the process and several noteworthy scholars who write with a style I can envy yet never emulate!
