* I had been a secondary teacher for 16 years until last September when a change of circumstances led me to take a post in a primary school. One of the major readjustments I have had to make is to allow for the total lack of non-contact time.

All preparation and marking is done after school. I hanker for that essential respite of non-ppil time.

Now that secondary teachers have the prospect of deserved overtime pay for missing out on non-contact time, perhaps primary teachers should receive this (backdated from start of service) for every day, as they work overtime constantly.
