Carre’s grammar school in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, is named after Robert Carre who founded it in 1604.

It is sad to note that, 398 years later, I am having to change the name of the school on our computerised school management system to lose the apostrophe because the Department for Education and Skills’ schools census software is unable to load files with an apostrophe.
