YOUR article on the scheme for mature maths and science graduates (TES, September 3) needs clarification.
Those training through the new scheme must attain exactly the same standards for qualified teacher status as PGCE trainees, but they can be employed as teachers while they train.
The scheme is based on the graduate teacher programme but with extra funding for the schools involved and TimePlan’s help in matching schools with trainees. Geoff Brown
