I WAS interested to read John Howson’s crude analysis of school funding (TES, October 8).

What John Howson fails to acknowledge is that additional funding was provided to grantmaintained schools to enable them to provide their own support services. GM schools made good use of this freedom for the benefit of their pupils.

Within the new framework more schools will have the opportunity to determine their service provider and so be able to maximise their funding resources.
